Simple shoulder stretches at home

Simple Shoulder Stretches You Can Do At Home

Shoulder tightness rarely announces itself. It creeps in through hours hunched over a laptop, a bag carried on the same side every day, stress you're barely conscious of — and by evening it's just "how your shoulders feel now." You don't need a gym, a foam roller, or twenty minutes you don't have. Five stretches, done consistently, do most of the work.

1. Cross-body shoulder stretch

Bring one arm across your chest and gently press it closer with your other arm. Hold 20–30 seconds each side. Simple, but it directly targets the back of the shoulder — exactly where desk tension tends to concentrate.

2. Doorway chest opener

Forearms on the door frame, elbows roughly shoulder height, lean gently forward. This is the single best counter to the forward-hunched posture that builds up from hours at a screen.

3. Shoulder rolls

Roll your shoulders up, back and down 8–10 times, then reverse. It sounds almost too basic to work — it's not. Seconds, not minutes, to loosen the whole shoulder girdle.

4. Neck-to-shoulder stretch

Gently tilt your head toward one shoulder until you feel a stretch down the opposite side of your neck into your shoulder. Hold 20 seconds, switch sides.

5. Overhead reach

Reach one arm straight overhead and lean gently to the opposite side. This lengthens the muscles along your torso and shoulder that tighten from sitting — an area most stretch routines skip entirely.

The habit that actually matters

These work best little and often: two minutes, three or four times a day, not one long session on a Sunday. Many people find pairing them with a few minutes of gentle heat beforehand makes the stretch go noticeably deeper and feel more comfortable.

That's exactly the pairing our Shoulder Wrap is built around — warm the area first, then stretch into it.
